Description

Up for offer is an original North Korean 1947 Series 1 Won banknote previously owned by a soldier of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army during the Korean War.

The name of the soldier is Wang Qi (王琦) as indicated by his personal stamp on the bottom left corner at the back, and the bill was mailed back to China as a gift for a family member or a close friend with the given name of Min (敏). The inscriptions in the back translates to: “Keepsake for big brother Min. Sent by little brother Qi from the front lines. People’s Volunteer Army 21st Army.”

The 1947 series North Korean banknote was printed in the Soviet Union on behalf of the Central Bank of North Korea (later renamed to the Central Bank of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea).

The condition is the note is very good with some minor yellowing due to age. There is a small but barely noticeable fold crease near the middle of the bill. The handwritten signature of the soldier is still very crisp, as well as his personal stamp. The banknote’s serial number is “ㄴㅈ 33883”.
