Early Leader Double Portrait Badge – People’s Suit

Up for offer is an extremely rare early double portrait badge featuring Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il wearing the famous “People’s Suit”.

This design appeared in the mid-to-late 1990s following the death of Kim Il Sung and was used only for a short period of time. No photographs are known to exist showcasing this specific design in use. Two other variants are known of this design showing both Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il wearing military Marshal uniforms, and one showing Kim Il Sung wearing a Western suit while Kim Jong Il wears a People’s Suit.

Badges of this design can be considered the precursor to the famous double portrait badge seen post-2011.

The condition of the badge is very good, no significant flaws on the obverse side other than some yellowing due to sun exposure and aging. The reverse is also in good condition, though the pin is slightly misshaped from use, a small scratch on the left side next to the pin holder, and some paint loss on the pin holder itself from wear.

This is the only known example of this this specific design to have surfaced. Any evidence to the contrary is welcomed!
